TAUNTON CONCERT BAND is a symphonic wind band that was started back in 1892 when there was a band called the Taunton Town Band. The band tours overseas every other year. In 2010 the band had a successful tour to Prague the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. The band aspires to attain the highest standards of musicianship within a social and friendly enviroment. Attracting players from all over Somerset, the band nonetheless retains a core of long-standing members.
Under the direction of Martin Wills the band has grown in both size and reputation and prides itself on its eclectic, challenging and rewarding repertoire.
Martin Wills was awarded the Somerset County Council Chairmans Golden Jubilee Award 2002 for his enthusiasm and commitment to the bands, as well as many other musical activities in the county of Somerset.
The aim of Taunton Concert Band:- To advance the education of the public in the art of music by the presentation of concerts to which members of the public shall have access.
